WELCOME TO DREADHACK! is a text-based webcomic about life, love, and game development shenanigans.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Who are you?

A: I’m Daniel Caton. In addition to silly projects like this, I am also a musician and composer and have written music for a number of short films.

Q: What is this thing?

A: It’s technically a webcomic, if only for lack of a better term. I took a lot of inspiration from comics like XKCD and Buttersafe and mashed that up with a love of old-school gaming in order to create this unholy abomination. In short, it’s a comedy that follows three protagonists as they attempt to develop a new computer game known as DREADHACK. I’ve been working on this project off and on since about 2016 or 2017, but some friends and relatives recently encouraged me to finally push it out to the public.

Q: Is it really a webcomic?

A: In regard to the pacing and the way it tells jokes, I’d say so. I’ll agree that it isn’t traditional, especially with the art style but I’m not sure there’s a better term out there to describe it. If you find one, let me know and I’ll adjust my marketing strategy accordingly.

Q: Is DREADHACK an actual game?

A: No. It’s an extremely loose amalgamation of Rogue, Nethack, Angband, Cataclysm: Dark Days Ahead and SUPERHOT, but it doesn’t actually exist. Thankfully.

Q: Do you have a policy regarding fan works (art, music, fanfiction, fangames)?

A: Legally, I reserve the right to smack you down with prejudice within the constraints of applicable copyright laws. On an entirely unrelated note, I do often enjoy content that stays PG, gives proper credit, and isn’t for-profit. Read what I’m saying (and not saying) very carefully, alright? When in doubt, ask permission beforehand. If you want to officially license something, I’m generally open to the idea. Just use the contact link below to get in touch.

Q: Can I post your comics on my website or social media?

A: As long as you’re giving proper credit and linking back to this site, please do.

Q: I have more questions and also want to send you fan mail to let you know that your comic is acceptable. How can I contact you?

A: Please glance through the rest of the FAQ just in case I’ve already answered your question, and if you still have a problem just contact me here. Feedback and fan mail is always welcome.
